i'm in istanbul right this very second. it's gorgeous. so is my grandparents' apartment. i love this city! it's not greece, of course, but it's still lovely. i have awful jet-lag, but i don't even care-to look out on the city is good enough for me.

the flight over here was nothing short of hell..two straight days of traveling (i left my house in dallas at noon and arrived at my grandparents' apartment in istanbul at 2:30 AM the next day), with very little sleep and a 9 hour layover at heathrow..blehh. apparently i can't do the whole "romantic" backpacking-across-europe thing, i would die during the first three days. so anyway, this traveling brought on some weird dreams (when i did sleep). i had a dream of a photoshoot; it was a really dark street scene where the brightest thing were the clothes-not the models, even, just the clothes. everything else was kind of fuzzy. and the clothes were really classy...white pencil skirts with white leather belts and loose black tank tops, with black chanel quilted purses and white patent leather booties.. and white tuxedos and messy hair and white oxfords. it was weird.

i'm listening to the divine comedy right now (thank you mac). amazing.

sorry for the quick update. i'll post more soon, i promise!

Sunday, 10 May 2009

posting will probably be done sparingly, if at all, this week, seeing as i have a big paper to write. sorry!

i think it's safe to say that everyone is ready for summer. i, personally, am looking forward to these things:

-picnics with a bunch of friends.
-waking up at noon everyday and deciding what to do.
-knowing that, if plans interrupt something today, you'll probably be able to do something the next day. or the next. or the next.
-being inspired by heat and a/c (oh yes!).
-having the option to NOT do anything.
-trips.
-having the option to do something.
-wearing summer clothes.
-reading, constantly.
-eating, constantly.
-hanging out on my balcony.
-having parties.
-biking.
-running. indoors.
-not having to put up with awful teachers and stupid kids.
-playing music, constantly.
-changing my outfit 3 times a day, just because.
-doing anything, just because.
-the general carefree-ness that goes along with summer.

i just really love summer. everyone complains of the heat (even i do), but i really don't mind it. it's worth it just to be out of school.

at the beginning of summer, i usually find a picture that epitomizes my ideal summer. haven't found it yet. but hopefully i will soon.

i will blog LOTS once i'm done with this paper. i promise. and definitely once summer commences.

bbbblonde

hi. i'm blonde. i decided to just go for it.

what do ya think?

i have to apologize for not posting for so long...i've been so insanely, incredibly busy, and when i haven't been busy, i haven't been inspired. i will get back on track asap. if it tells you how busy i've been, i haven't even checked on ANY of the blogs i follow in the past, say, week? and i'm addicted to them.

so yeah. i'm in california right now, going to coachella, and it's going to be 100 degrees. bleh bleh bleh. not that i'm not excited about hearing BEIRUT AHHHH but i had a heat stroke today which was awful and i'm not looking forward to even hotter weather. but whatevz i'm sure it'll be fine.

okay i seriously have nothing more to say except i'm sorry! i will probs post after monday about how coachella went. i know i've been such a bad blogger, i'm really sorry. please don't forget me! haha.

love, lydia

Monday, 30 March 2009

so it's my birthday. i've had a wonderful day with friends and my parents and brother.

i've been really busy this week, therefore not having time to post, so i apologize. hopefully this week will be a little more tame, considering it's the week before my spring break.

hope you've all had a great week! i hope to post something soon. bear with me until i'm free.

beautiful, ain't it?

an update of sorts.

i have some advice to you: clean out your closet. i did this all day yesterday and i feel so fulfilled, haha. not to mention i have many, many clothes waiting to be sold or given away. i had so much junk in there...crazy. and now i can feel okay about buying something new, because i've gotten rid of so much stuff! so yeah, clean 'em out.

i'm sure you've all seen the cnn special on carine roitfeld. if not, please do. it's a lovely way to spend 20 minutes of your day. she's so cute and inspirational, etc., etc.

handsome furs played a show last night. WOWZA they were amazing. and nice. and dressed so impressively. and were even really apologetic for not being able to have us open for them. it was so much fun, and they played so well. i should start being as active onstage as alexei is... hahaha. anyway, they were really, really great, and nathan said it was like "seeing the clash in their hey-day"..only with a lot less people.

what else...my birthday's 8 days from now...

you should also see the changeling. i saw it the other night-really great movie. sad and disturbing and awful to think that this really happened but great. since it's set in the 20s, the fashion is also amazing amazing amazing. (20s=best time for fashion, in my opinion...besides now.)

does anyone else think hedi slimane has nice hair?

not that he has much hair, haha, but still. OH and why does he pose that way in nearly ever single picture taken of him? i don't get it. i love him, but he's a weird guy...

so i'm going to steal from nogoodforme and tell you what i'm wanting, wearing, reading, watching, listening...

wanting: to know the name of the band that i saw in the airport today. and i want a vacation. aagh.
wearing: the outfit i always wear during the summer...a red dress and a comfy sweater. yeah. it's summer weather without the summer. WHY.
reading: 1984...i thought i should probs read the book i'm doing a paper on...and i need to read the rest of alice in wonderland, the english patient, and my hypothyroidism book (it's a step-by-step guide to the first year of HT, which is what i call the illness hehe. it's a nice abbreviation, right? like MS-horrible illness, great abbreviation.), and i'm only on day 4, even though i've had it for 5 months. haha.
watching-never mind the buzzcocks. i haven't seen much of the past season, and i've finally gotten around to watching it.

i will leave you this picture of alexa chung. i am constantly reminded of how lovely she is and has been:

she is also the luckiest girl in the world, dating alex and all.

i will post tuesday, probs. do not worry.

Thursday, 5 March 2009

oh no...i'm completely uninspired.

i am SO SO sorry for not posting over the long weekend. all i did was sleep and do nothing else except maybe eat tons of these:

i'm such a fatty.

anyway, not all is lost! i'm sure i will obtain inspiration soon!

i figure the best way to be inspired is scouring tons and tons of blogs. also listening to (new) music and watching movies, but you know, spending hours upon hours reading blogs is waaay less productive (seeing as i can multitask when i'm listening to music and watching a movie), so it's automatically more appealing!

here are some things i've been thinking about this past week...
tavi recently posted about these:
and i literally died. i mean, are those the most beautiful things you ever did see or what?!

while everyone east of me is (or..was) experiencing REALLY heavy snow, it's spring here. officially. the blooms are a-coming and the weather speaks for itself. i actually don't mind it. but i'm ready for summer.

well, another thing i've been thinking about is work. but i DO NOT want to think about that right now. please let's not get into that.

something you should definitely read weekly: mary's embracing monday posts. i look forward to them and they make me so happy! mondays have always been worse than tuesdays for me; they begin my week, i always have the most work to do on mondays, and even though i don't have classes on mondays, they are always the most stressful. therefore, mary's weekly posts are a joy to read.

also, i have to profess my love for nogoodforme. i don't check the site very often, but that makes liz, kat, and laura jane's posts so much more special. i am a little bit ashamed to say i spend a lot of time looking through archives and reading every word they write. they write about, well, everything. this makes me happy seeing as i cannot simply write about one subject. each post is worth reading. i mean, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE. really.

also, beirut/realpeople's march of the zapotec/holland ep came out a couple weeks ago, and i, of course, am in love. except that it's WAY too short. i'm all into it and happy and all, and then it stops. it's still amazing though. i don't think i've disliked anything that man has created.

ah. i guess that's it. sad, ain't it? this is how boring my day-to-day life is.

i wish i was here again:

Saturday, 14 February 2009

i could sleep for a thousand years...

lately i've just wanted to sleep. a lot. this is nothing too out of the ordinary, seeing as i have hypothyroidism. but my life's been really busy and i don't have any energy. i get up, go to school, come home at noon, work till 3 or 4, maybe run and lounge for 6 hours (because by then i'm too tired to do anything else), and go to sleep. that's it. i haven't had any interest much stuff...i guarantee you 2009 will be the hardest year of my life. it takes a lot to be happy.

anyway. on to the more interesting, less depressing and boring stuff. i have finally gotten around to 1) finishing it's kind of a funny story, and 2) taking a picture of my wonderful recent purchases, which i cannot wait to show you.

first, my minnie bow made by yokoo (for those of you who aren't interested in this fashion-related bit, scroll down):

my face is funny.

well, yokoo's expensive and her products don't come quickly, but she does all of her stuff by hand, and when the package arrives, it's a joyous day. that's how it was when i received the minnie bow in grey. this bow is lovely, it goes with everything in my closet, and it doesn't hurt my head, so it's perfectly comfortable to wear. if you are ever pondering whether to buy any product of hers, i say, if you have the monies, go ahead and buy it. i'm sure it will be made well and with tlc. i would love to have one of her endless amounts of cowls and chains and other quirky, warm accessories.

and my snazzy leather jacket:

this was a christmas present, and it makes me [sing even mooore*] feel all cool and alison mosshart-esque. i usually dress "cute" (i.e., in dresses and tutus and skirts), but i love this jacket because i can be tough and still wear dresses. it may look a little funny on me, but i really enjoy wearing it. plus, i can hide in its collar!!

i'm going to do a post on my clothes fetishes soon. i have a fetish for shoes and coats, which is evident by my 32+ pairs of shoes and 8+ coats.

anyway, i finished it's kind of a funny story this last weekend, and i think it should have been about me. hah. i could just relate to it so much. it's funny, sad, encouraging, and happy. not to mention the cover art is amazing. ah, i don't even know what to say. it's such a good story. def one of my favorite books now.

devotchka is such a good band. seeing them 3 times is not enough. they are really great performers, and nick is just about the most handsome man in the world. he's 30-something, but he's so...tall, dark, and handsome. i would recommend them to anyone with any music taste. man, i can't get over how wonderful they are.

i'm tired and i've been working on this post for aaages. haha.

*aghhh, i keep singing songs by the beaten sea. look 'em up, they are so. so. good. and even better live. don't ya just love when you hear a really great local band? i do.

well, i don't feel just like a child...

for the first time since...ever....i wish i was a kid again. of course, in most peeps' eyes, in the government's eyes, and in my own eyes as well, i'm still a kid. just a slightly-older-than-a-little-kid kid. anyway, the point is, i wish i didn't care what people thought, or if anything i did was good or not.

when i was in 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade, i would write stories. i must have wrote about 30 stories in the span of those years, probably more. i would just be inspired, or i had a story in my head, maybe from a dream or a cartoon, and i would write it. i've since read those stories, and they do sound like the work of a 7 or 8 year old, but they aren't bad...and they aren't bad solely for the fact that one, i wasn't ashamed of them, and two, i didn't care if they were good, or if the genius in my class would be impressed by them or not (or if anyone would be impressed by them). i simply wrote, and the only thing that mattered was that i thought they were good. and i did. i thoroughly enjoyed writing them, and while my older brother would write better, more complicated things, i didn't care. what i wrote was what i wrote; it was good enough for me and it didn't matter.

i want to be like that again. i know that's just children for you; they don't care if they look stupid or act stupid, they just do it. they look at things simply. obviously i'm glad i can think complex thoughts, and do many other things that children would find difficult. but if i wasn't worried whatever i created-whether it be music or art or writing-came out better than someone else's creation, or if it was any good or not, i could actually create things. i've prevented myself from creating anything  because i'm so worried someone won't like it, no one will be impressed by it. if it was as simple as that, it would be fine (if i liked my creation, but no one else did, that would be okay)...but i keep telling myself "oh, it's not good enough. no one will like it. you don't even like it." so i don't like it. i force myself never to be happy with what i make. then, when i finally do create something and show it to someone and that someone doesn't like it (because there will always be those people), it saddens me even more. and i'm discouraged, so i don't do anything for a while. for example, i haven't tried writing lyrics (which i'm def no good at) in at least 3 months.

anyway, i wish it was as simple as telling myself not to care what people think, and to be proud of what i do. it's not as simple as that, though, and it never will be. it's really hard for me to get good thoughts into my head. especially without anyone's help.

sorry for the emo-ness of this post. i'll make it better by telling you that
1. it's an ice day today (no not snow days, we don't get that here...we only get ice), so i've been home...slacking...all day. i've still got tons o' homework to do for tomorrow. eh.
2. i've got so many books to read right now.. here they are:

a beautiful alice in wonderland that sof gave me for christmas (thanks)

the rest of the english patient, also given to me for a christmas present (i didn't show the front cover 'cos it's ugly hehe)

on loan from sof, it's kind of a funny story. i'm really excited to read this one.

so yeh. i've got some reading and math and medieval history of greece studying to do! woop woop!

AND ANOTHER ONE

obviously i am beginning to be quite popular and everyone looks up to me and admires my run-on sentence skills (intense sarcasm), because i have been graciously tagged again, this time by sophie.

the fourth picture in the fourth folder where i keep my pictures on my computer (whew. fortunately, i didn't pick the fourth picture from the fourth folder in my last tag, otherwise it would have been my brother and i standing outside a greek academy again [see last post]):

i drag a  lot of inspiration into my iphoto, and inspiration is what this picture is. from the one and only sartorialist, a picture he took in florence. i just love it because it looks noir and it's just really beautiful all around.

in another news....
the weather has been so weird lately. it'll be 70 one day, 80 the next, and then 40 the next day. i don't get it. and it confuses my body warmth haha. i'll walk outside and it'll be freezing, even though i know by noon it will be hot. so i'm cold then hot then cold then hot then cold again.

also, we went to the matthew and the arrogant sea show last night. except we didn't stay long enough to actually see matthew and the arrogant sea. haha. i'm not ready to stay up till 2 while everyone around me is getting drunker/more stoned by the minute. anyway, the first band was great, which made up for the fact that we couldn't see the rest.

i just realized that i'm awful at making lists. i can't remember aaanything. ah, god, i'm blind, deaf, and  ADD.

sorry for the lack of nice posting lately. i've been in a.....weird...mood. i'll get back to normal soon, i promise. at least after the devotchka concert two weeks from now. I AM SO EXCITED.

Sunday, 11 January 2009

wowza, is this actually getting somewhere?

i added that lil gadget that enables peeps to publicly follow this blog. juuust in case anyone wants to, hint hint.

anyways, thank you so much for commenting! you are lovely.

since this post is being published on a whim and is also pretty pointless, i'll excite you with the cover of beirut's upcoming double EP marhc of the zapotec/holland:

hooray! i'm so excited for this. you have no idea. ahhhh. i love love the joys of losing weight, so hearing holland will be super wonderful, and march of the zapotec OBVIOUSLY is going to be EPIC. you know those things that just want to make you shout "hallelujah"? well. this is one of those things.

also, i don't remember where i found this, but it makes me want snow really badly:

here in dallas, we only get about 2 snows a year, if that. this year we've already gotten two (or three? i canst remember), buuut i want a real snow. not like that ever happens here. whenever it gets cold enough to snow for a while, it ices. arg.

and enjoy this photo of me holding my cat who really doesn't want to be held (she is so whiny yet sweet):

also, after watching control, i'm listening to joy division a whooooole lot. hmm, i've finally jumped on the joy division fan bandwagon.

ah, so another random post. sorry. i'll get to something more important sooner or later.

thinking thinking thinking thinking thinking

i've been pondering a few things lately, and decided to share them with you (even though there are only like, two?? of you. psh):

first, my guilty pleasures-these include m.i.a.*

real hardcore penny loafers

and, lastly, fashion blogs.
yep. either you love 'em or you hate 'em. i, for one, love them. but i'm a teensy bit ashamed of my love for fashion blogs. i mean, i love love music. it's my life. but i also adore fashion. i may not think it's serious thing that isn't in any way superficial or anything, but i do love getting dressed in the morning. think fashion can be an art form. and i definitely think it's superficial, but when i put on clothes that make me feel good, or are crazy and make me feel different, i feel great. so does everyone, i think. think about it-you have your favorite shirt, pants, outfit, whatever. why is it your favorite? i would dare to say that most people would say it's their favorite because they think they look great in it, it's comfy (or not so much, if they're heels), and you feel confident while wearing it. that's why i love fashion. i have low self-esteem, and the one activity that makes me feel better (most of the time) about myself (besides running haha) is coming up with some ridiculous, cool outfit that no one else has worn before. kids at most high schools wear sweat pants and t shirts to school-boring and nonchalant. so when i come to school in a dress and a tutu and bright yellow shoes and tights, i feel awesome. people compliment me (or just look at me strangely) and i feel proud of myself for wearing something so different. anyway, fashion blogs just give me the inspiration when i'm feeling down, they make me feel more normal (because i realize there are girls out there just like me). there are billions of fashion blogs out in the blogosphere and i am super picky about the ones that i follow (more on that later haha). they have to get me interested. there are stereotypical fashion blogs, the ones that consist of girls who are obsessed with themselves and don't appreciate fashion really, they just like looking slutty and talking about themselves. but then there are ones that consist of real people, people whom i admire, for their taste and personalities and confidence. people who are beautiful inside and out. frankly, i get bored with being a music fan all the time. i need another hobby. and whether you think it's cool or not, fashion is my other hobby. so there!

okay, so that brings me to my next point of this post: the ultimate fashion challenge. i learned just yesterday of this blog called nogoodforme.com which i am still confused about and there are tons of words in the posts but ANYWAY. i learned that one of the contributers to the blog recently took part in a certain ultimate fashion challenge which meant wearing every single piece of clothing in her closet (excluding some things) and wearing them only once. i found this immensely interesting and i'm always up to a challenge (almost always), as well as the fact that i do wear certain clothes way too much. it would be super hard, and i would feel really self-conscious and it would take a long time aaand i might have to wait until i obtain my wishlist. hahah. buuut i'm still willing to try it. so we'll see where that goes. hmmmmm.

this is what i do when i get a comment on one of my posts:

"YES!!!!" also, note my perfectly clean room heehee.
so comment. plz. makes me happyyy when skies are graay.

mm also, two other embarrassing loves of mine:

jews (which literally everyone knows about. even my lit teacher ahhahah)

a pissed off jew cat!

an amstell jew!

a hasidic jew!

i love jews so much they are all so cute. heehee! not that i'm embarrassed that i like them, i really love all races, it just so happens that i think jews are really cute and the old men jews are bitter but that just makes them cuter..um anyway, it's a weird affinity. and a lot of people just think i'm super weird for loving jews. but i don't think it's weird.

and being supah white. i think i've already mentioned this in a post before, but it's crazy how many of those posts i can relate to hahaha. :| that is kiiind of embarrassing, ya know?

soo anyway, i LOVE YOU SO MUCH if you actually read this entire thing. i bet you didn't! hehe, it's alright, though. i don't care so much. stuff happens (and doesn't happen).

p.s. i think i got the first picture from miz knight cat. the rest was from google yay!!

*i wasn't gonna explain my other guilty pleasures, but my reason for feeling guilty about liking mia is that she's such a stereotypical hipster thing to like, but i can't help it-even if she sampled straight to hell. my reason for feeling guilty about liking penny loafers is because, well, they are clunky old lady shoes/uniform and private school shoes, that most peeps would take one look at and vow never to step into one. but hey, after they get worn-in and dirty, they are quite the alternative to dirty converse.

hangovers suck

ah so we played a show last night and i was super energetic (i know, right? craziness.) so it was fun even though apparently the sound was off (i wouldn't know, my monitor sounded fine to me). and then c shift played so since it was hunter's last time playing for them i decided to be nice and dance till i dropped (which i eventually did) with alex, so i danced so long and so much that it was like running a mile (equally exhilarating, at least). so now i'm sore and tired. and i didn't find anything at all at buffalo exchange today and it was really busy and i hate when the preps that go in there because they think it's a costume shop talk loudly and super annoyingly. sooo now i'm just feeling like this:

meh.

i'm listening to sonic youth's daydream nation. i dunno...everybody hypes them up so much and then doesn't and then i'm like, "eh, if i listened to them in the late 80s early 90s, i probs would like them." and i was born in the early 90s soooo i was watching scooby doo and crying and being me and my little precious kid self. so yeah, i'm not too hot about sonic youth. bahhh.

i do love, however, the movie control. i finally watched it thursday night and wowowowowow it's amazing. the fact that it's shot in b&w makes it cool, as well as the fact that the kid who played ian looks exactly like ian did (a bit prettier, maybe). sooo it made me want to listen to joy division, and i'm doing so right now. woo.

eh, pointless post. i just felt like doing something other than staring off into space listening to the national...

p.s. the coolness of the first picture is the work of this kid who lives in oklahoma i think....how boring...

new year's resolutions

they are a bit overrated, seeing as i've known hardly anyone who has kept them (including me). but, this year, i'm at my wit's end with myself. i've been far too depressed and unconfident, and those things are something i can change by myself. of course, it won't be easy, but i can at least try (moral support, anyone?). every time i feel an urge to ridicule myself, or think i'm stupid/unattractive/weird, etc., i'll try to stop and say to myself, "no, you aren't. listen to the people who keep telling you you are beautiful and smart." i will not take insults, and i will be impervious to what people say (except when i really am being stupid and i'm hurting someone). i will not hurt myself emotionally. i'm a good person. i'm a nice person. i'm happy and i will be happy. my motto for 2009 is "i can do it". and i know i can.

that is my resolution (uuhh, besides running 2 miles every day that i can haha).

things and stuff

first, i finished the blind assassin by margaret atwood yesterday. it's become one of my favorite books ever. it's just incredibly well written and it's such an amazing story. the book centers around iris chase and her sister, laura, and their lives, as told through iris as an old woman. the novel contains a story within a story, called the blind assassin, which is a sort of science fiction love story, as tragically entertaining as irs' depiction of her life. i will only tell you that, because you kind of have to ignorantly dive into the book head first to fully enjoy it, i think. anyway, it's everything i love in a book mixed into one big novel. and though it took me a while to get through it (usually i finish a good book in a few days, but this one took me more than 3 months, due to school), it was completely worth the time once i finished it. i definitely recommend it.

secondly, i watched the boy in the striped pajamas this afternoon. it is so sad..no matter how many books or movies i read or see on WWII, the tragedy never fails to move me, or to make me think about how privileged i am not to have ever been persecuted for, well, anything. the story gives an interesting (and awfully sad) view of auschwitz from the perspective of an eight-year-old boy and his family. his father is a nazi commander general who lives with his wife, the little boy, and his daughter, in berlin. they move to the countryside, which displeases bruno (the little boy), and he soon finds that he can see a concentration camp and its prisoners from his window. apparently, he doesn't know what goes on at the camp (he thinks the prisoners are farmers, and the camp is a farm). in this way, the story is extremely tragic (the story itself as well as the events are very very tragic indeed), showing the ignorance of the commander's family. the awful secret of what the nazis were doing to the jews in the camp was kept from the family, and the commander (as well as the daughter's and bruno's tutor) teaches them  that what he is doing is for the best of the country, leading everyone to a better world. it really shows the awfulness of the holocaust, but not in a usual way. i've never seen or read anything quite like this movie. it is definitely worth watching, and i'd love to read the book now, though it seems like the movie stayed pretty true to the book. also! if you are itching to read a really good book on the holocaust, read night by elie wiesel. it isn't too graphic (that i remember? i haven't read it in a few years) and gives a horrifying, well written look into elie's life at auschwitz, when he was about 15. this man (and his book) is such an inspiration to me, he's unbelievably wonderful. (not to mention the cutest old jew you ever did see! [and this is coming from a girl who is in love with every jew she sees!])

and onto a much more shallow, happier subject: i also cut my hair this week. it's insanely short, and of course i have no pictures yet. but i am really enjoying it, it's nice not to have to wash my hair at all ever again (i kid i kid, i have washed it every single day. i am that much of a clean freak). anyway, i think (hope?) it looks good.

also, i'm sure everyone knows now that i have been diagnosed with acquired pediatric hypothyroidism?? yeah. it's such a relief to know that i'm not a hypochondriac. but i haven't gotten any medz yet, so i'm dying until i get those. haha. i'm so tired. (but now i feel guilty for complaining about that because i just saw a holocaust movie and everyone was way more tired/starved than i could even ever think about being. arrrrrg.)

so, as a conclusion to this weird post filled with weird things, i really hope that, in maybe 40 years, when the holocaust will be an extremely old topic, when none of its survivors will be living, when everyone will turn their attention to more important things, someone will be there to urge people to remember the stories, remember the tragedy, and face what was so so incredibly awful and heart-wrenching. when elie's manuscript that he had written, un di velt hot geshivgn (and the world remained silent), was rejected by publishers, they said it was too morbid, and that no one would want to hear the stories. as stupid as that sounds (to me), it could happen again. in time, people forget, and they don't want to hear morbid details and, well, the plain truth. i hope that people years from now will listen to the stories of persecuted jews long ago, and apply it to the present.  it is important to hear these stories, and make sure it never happens again (ahem, darfur), even though there are plenty of evil people in this world, and there will continue to be plenty of evil people.

a post to past the time

so i'm not sure why i'm posting this, but i've been surfing the blogosphere all day, and i guess that influences me to post.

so. first, i want to say something to everyone who plans on ringing our doorbell: we won't hear you. no one is ever on that floor and on the off chance that someone is on that floor, it would most likely be either 1. my mom, who would be sewing or cooking, therefore not hearing the ring, 2. myself, who would be watching house/heroes, therefore way too lazy/not in the mood to get up and open the door, or 3. nathan, who would be in the kitchen, probably watching some weird video or listening to something, therefore not hearing the ring. so call the house phone or my phone or whomever you might want to call, and have us open the BACK door, where hippies come in (a joke only a certain few would get).
(that's an old doorbell from venice)

secondly, it is thanksgiving break. woohoo. well it technically starts tomorrow, seeing as that is when my school week would normally start, but whatevz (when do i ever say that heehee!). and so far it's been uneventful, boring. for example: i have a doctor's appointment at 3:30 which consists of me getting toooons of blood tests done, blah blah blah, really boring and worthless (just give me vitamins and iron supplements and acquired pediatric hypothyroid medicine and be done with it!). also i have, o n my desk, three things: a dr. pepper can (empty, how sad), a wrapper from a kashi cereal bar (my breakfast), and a water bottle (empty as well). OH and bethany's ipod, which i still haven't uploaded songs onto. aarrrrrrg. therefore, this shows that i am SO BORED. i also have like 821973 blogs up in 821973 tabs. and a GIGANTIC run in my hoes which i am wearing right now! aaaarrg. also, facebook is being boring to me, and i WANT TO DO SOMETHING TODAY BESIDES SIT/DO OTHER BORING THINGS.
(bored cat)
sorry. enough complaining. it's entertaining.

hair cut?
yeah, i know everybody and their mom has gotten/wishes to don aggyness deyn hair, BUT i am part of that everybody and their mom. plus, i kind of sport a mullet right now, haha:
MULLET-FUL
(taken on saturday. and yeah, i edited it, just because i LOVE green [i kid])
so, haircut time! i am obviously trying to look as much like a boy as i possibly can, hah. i already have the clothes! anyway, here are some boyish pictures of me and my hair and my no-makeup-ed-face today:
(hehe, fat face)
see, my hair is SO LONG. AGH.

so can you tell i'm bored? i want to watch juno for the 8th time. and i most definitely do NOT want to go to the doctor.

watch these (i love love this band):

okay, that's all for now. i have to go. bye bye!

weeell

i suppose this has become more of a journal-type thing more than an actual blog (not entirely my fault, seeing as i can now say i've told tons o' peeps about this). but i guess that's for the better. not having any readers (except you, sofĂa) does have its perks! for example:

-i can embarrass myself immensely in posts and not feel like a total loser! because sof already makes fun of me/abuses me/recognizes that i am a loser. therefore, NO SHAME.

-i don't have to worry about pleasing any readers, or making vlogs, or posting any remotely interesting posts! ever! therefore, NO PRESSURE.

-i can freely live in blissful ignorance of my boringness due to my (slightly) boring life, for i wouldn't have any readers to bring me back to reality! therefore, NO CHANGE (oh the sarcasm).

i can't think of any more perks but i'm SURE  there are some! i'll stay positive!

....

right.

writing

i love writing, obviously. i started this blog mainly because of that. but throughout my life, i'm probably going to be faced with the words "written off topic" on essays and papers. i'm not sure i can help writing "off topic" much. because what i'm good at, and what i always do, is creative writing. i think of something along the lines of the topic and just expound, pouring my words out onto the paper, speaking my mind about things. which i thought was good, isn't it? i guess not. i want to write for my own pleasure, give me something to write about and i'll just go for it. but stay on topic? maybe not. i'm always talking, and i really want to talk about things that interest me or don't interest me, and why. i hate writing on things that i can't write about. if i were to do an essay on dogs being man's best friend, for example, i wouldn't have anything to say. at all. this is what i have to say about dogs in general: "dogs are mammals who are all pretty stupid except for the few smart ones who provide some entertainment. the especially sinister ones eat children and stink and slobber all over carpets. i don't see how they are man's best friend, unless man is as strange as the dog. the end." what i'd rather study and write about, would be sinister dogs with rabies. that would be interesting. but i wouldn't be staying on topic, would i? i'm perplexed with this issue. i love to write, but if something doesn't interest me, how can i write about it? and how can i stay on topic if i hardly know what the topic is?

giant papillary conjunctivitis! woohoo!

hi guys. i am a dork. officially. i mean, the title just screams that, huh. i came to this realization (no i shall not spell it the brit way, even though i usually do since i'm an anglophile, because that will make me look like more of a dork, eh) by realizing these two facts about myself:

1. i was about to post another post on how i am filled with IRE and STRESS because i received an 80 (out of 100) on an essay i wrote. now, i do have my reasons on why this has made me so angry/sad/stressed, including, but not limited to:i thought i did an amazing job on the seemingly easy essay, the reasons the teacher gave in explanation for my grade were almost completely pointless, i don't even know what the teacher wants from me, in terms of my essays, anymore, at all, which puts me in an even worse place, i was sick (YES! SICK! IMAGINE THAT!) on the day the teacher discussed the essay (therefore not getting the lecture on it,  IMAGINE THAT! YES!), the person next to me who is somewhat less experienced in writing due to not reading anything, ever, and not writing anything, ever (whereas i've been reading three books at least every month for nearly all my life, and have been writing things for nearly all my life) and the essay was the first legit essay i wrote for the teacher. still, it shows i'm a dork. not only have i failed my standards in the 3rd week of school, but i have also proven myself to be the person in the class who freaks out when they make a B.

2. i went to the ophthalmologist  yesterday (that in itself shows i'm a dork), and was diagnosed with giant papillary conjunctivitis. most people can't even pronounce those words. it's an infection, sort of like pink eye but a lot worse and different. my upper eyelid is infected, it's gotten extremely thick (don't know how, or why that's bad), to where, if you were to look at it, it's very, very red and you can't see the capillaries. uninfected eyelids are whiter and you can see the capillaries. but on mine, you can't. so it could actually make me blind, if i kept wearing contacts. obviously i don't want to be blind, so i'm having to wear glasses perpetually, or well, until the infection goes away. even then, i have to be extra extra careful, because it could come back. this infection's kind of like any other infection-it makes me sick, because my immune system is down. this could be why i've not felt completely well for the past 6 months. so besides showing me to be a dork, it's painful,  gross, and scary.

so that's what's up, that's why i'm a dork. i know this post is pretty bird's-songs-ish, but oh well.

count on seeing another rather ehhhh unhappy post tomorrow, i've finally got a scheduled post! wahoo! right, and there's no readers for me to schedule it for. :(( bah.

oh, actually, i've got two scheduled posts: soon, i'm going to do a post on my loverly friend aria's newish albumish thing, titled cities vs. submarines, which you all should listen to now!

THANK YOU, BRIGHTON!

i've thought it over, i've had a good day

i woke up today with a  jolt. it was due to my alarm going off, for the first time in 3 months, alerting me to get up and going at 6:45am. somehow, after reviewing what day it was, what time it was, what i was about to do, i practically jumped out of bed and skipped to the bathroom, only to find ants invading my trash can (turns out there had been rotten food in my overused and neglected rubbish bin). instead of getting off to a bad start, i skipped up the stairs, drank a fruit shake, and annihilated the ants. then i quickly got ready for the day, and rode off to school with nathan. (by that time i was thinking, "how am i this perky? i can't be this perky. won't last.") so i went through my day, chatting/giggling with sofia. after getting off at 11am, we went to the retta's house to eat. we had a wonderful luncheon, with macaroni and cheese and organic beans and brownies and playmobiles. yes, it was quite a kiddy lunch, but it was great. as much as i love hanging out with big groups of (nice) people and as much as i wish i knew more (nice) people, i absolutely love hanging out with my 3 best friends: my brother, julia, and sofia. well, i love hanging out with them when we're all in good moods ha. but then again, who likes hanging out with people when they're in bad moods! so anyway, after eating/playing, nathan and i went home and started school work (which took 3 hours, not the best part of my day obv). and i had a nice internet-surfing day, then ate dinner and internet-surfed some more. now i finish my day with a cup of chamomile tea and a cookie. wonderful. let's hope i have another good day tomorrow, eh? (of course, i know it's partly because of how i view my day, if i believe i'm going to have a good day and i don't let things get me down, i have a good day. if not, i don't. i know that. but some days it's harder than others)

love,

lydia
